Our FOCUS this week: To personally experience the Lord's Death. As we do more than give lip service to Christ's Lordship, we immediately acknowledge that following Christ means following Him to Calvary...to the Cross...to our very death.
Our PRAYER this week: That we would be able to experience both intellectually and emotionally the death of our Lord Jesus so that we may later identify with Him in His resurrection.
Today -- day 1 -- we are going to take an honest look at the crucifixion of Christ. If you've got the time, and access to the film, watch The Passion of the Christ. If you have never viewed the movie before, please be aware that it is rated R for its extremely graphic portrayal of the crucifixion. It will be very difficult for you to watch. But it will also give you a pretty realistic idea of what happened that day on Golgotha.
If you don't have the time to set aside and watch the movie, take some time to read John 19 and then watch this short video. (It is one that we watched at Women's Encounter, but even if you've seen it before, take time to really pay attention to the scenes from the clips.)
Questions to think about:
- How did the film (or the short video) help you to intellectually experience Jesus' crucifixion?
- How did it affect you emotionally, and why?
- Which portion of the film or video was the most difficult for you to watch? Why?
