Week 1 Focus: To experience God's personal love and call as the very foundation for our lives.
Week 1 Prayer: That we understand that God alone, His glory and salvation, is the goal of our lives and that everything else in life is but a means to achieve that goal.
Start today's devotion by reading these two passages of Scripture:
Acts 8:26-40
1 Samuel 3:1-21
Notice in these two passages that both Samuel and Philip did what they did not because they chose to, but because they were being obedient to the Lord. God called them each to do a job for Him.
Hopefully you have decided to serve at the upcoming Women's Encounter because you have felt God calling you to do so.
But maybe that wasn't something that you even thought about before you registered as a server. Maybe you just signed up to serve because you had such an awesome time at your Encounter and you can't wait to help the next group of women have that same life-changing experience. If this is true for you, take some time now to ask God if it is HIS will that you be a part of this Encounter.
Regardless of whether this is your first time to serve or your sixth, and whether you prayerfully approached your decision to serve or not, take some time now to read back over our two Scriptures and think about how God is calling you to serve.
Is He speaking directly to your heart? Is He speaking through friends or family members? Or maybe through your time in His Word?
What is God calling you to do?
God had specific jobs for both Samuel and Philip. He chose to lay out the details for Samuel, but notice that the only message He delivered to Philip at first was "go." As Philip was obedient, God continued to reveal one step at a time what He needed Philip to do.
Has God been nudging you toward something specific, or has He simply called you to "go?" Spend some time now searching out the answer to that question, asking God what He needs you to do. Decide how you will respond to what He shows you!
Spend some time journaling your thoughts as you interact with the Lord through prayer.
