If this is your first time to visit this site, please start with this introductory post: Captivated Hearts: Women's Encounter Server Training and then begin the devotions with Week 1, Day 1.
Week 1 Focus: To experience God's personal love and call as the very foundation for our lives.
Week 1 Prayer: That we understand that God alone, His glory and salvation, is the goal of our lives and that everything else in life is but a means to achieve that goal.
Start today by reading Ephesians 3:16-19.
I love, love, love this passage of Ephesians because of the imagery it creates. There are so many amazing, powerful, awesome concepts in this tiny little paragraph!
Christ making His home, His dwelling in your hearts... picture Him settled in His favorite chair, reading a book by the crackling fire in the living room of YOUR HEART.
And then the picture of your roots, the part of you that digs in and holds you rock solid through any and all of life's storms, growing deep and strong in the endless soil of God's love. When you are grounded in that love, you are unshakeable!
But the part we really want to focus on today is how BIG God's love is...how endless the depth and width and length and height of His love really are.
I remember the first time I ever saw the ocean. I was 22 years old and I was visiting my college roommate at her home in Florida. As I stood and looked over the water I tried to imagine that I could see Europe's shores on the edge of the horizon. But as I strained my eyes and looked from side to side, all I could see was water. On and on it went. Of course it was far too vast for me to see even the hint of land on the other side. It was endless!
And yet that barely touches on the endlessness of God's love.
WOW. Take a minute and just meditate on how incredible that really is. Breathe it in, let it flood your soul.
A love like that cannot be shaken, uprooted or torn down in any way. It is a foundation that you can build your life on and know that you are safe. It will hold you up strong through torrential storm after torrential storm. Isaiah 43:1-7 reminds us of this. So do Psalm 23, and Psalm 27.
Here are some additional passages that tell of God's great love for us:
Psalms 42, 135 and 139
John 1:1-18
Philippians 1:3-11
Take some time now to write in your journal, describing God's love in your own words, and then spend some time worshiping Him through prayer, giving thanks for His endless love.
Tomorrow: Blessings
