If this is your first time to visit this site, please start with this introductory post: Captivated Hearts: Women's Encounter Server Training and then begin the devotions with Week 1, Day 1.
Week 1 Focus: To experience God's personal love and call as the very foundation for our lives.
Week 1 Prayer: That we understand that God alone, His glory and salvation, is the goal of our lives and that everything else in life is but a means to achieve that goal.
Yesterday we spent time relishing the fact that we are God's chosen daughters, adopted into His family with full rights as His children.
Today you will need to hold on to that truth, keep it running through your mind as you meditate on today's thoughts and Scriptures, because what we have to talk about today may be a little bit more difficult to accept.
Today's Scripture reading is found in Job. If you've got time, read all of chapters 38-42. Yes, I know that's a LOT or reading, but you can do it! If you read nothing else, read Job 38:1-24 and 40:1-5.
Next, flip over to Romans 2:1-5
These passages of Scripture are startling when you approach them through the question, "How does God see me?" When we ask that question, we expect to read about how God loves us (which He does!) and that He sees us not as sinners but as redeemed, wrapped in the blood of His Son (also very true). But we also have to have a right perspective of ourselves in comparison with who HE is.
What we see in these Scriptures are people who know that they are children of the One, True King. They walk around with their head held high saying, "My Dad's the KING, and that means I'm pretty IMPORTANT. That means I've got some authority, some clout, and you'd better pay attention."
And then God steps in to say, "Hold up. Yeah, you're my kid, but you're still JUST my KID. Are you the one who created the world? Are you the one who makes the sun rise in the morning, or who put feathers on the wings of the birds? Do you know the the things I know, can you DO the things I DO? Didn't think so..."
And so we're reminded that while we are called to do God's work, we ARE NOT GOD. In fact, we're not even second in command, and we should not act as though we are! While we nurture that close, Father-Daughter relationship with Him, we still must maintain an appropriate attitude of submission and reverence toward Him. God is GOD, and I am just me.
Spend some time meditating on this perspective of yourself. How does it affect your attitude about yourself and your role in His Kingdom? Journal your thoughts, and then spend some time praying and worshiping our AWESOME God.
